BCA believes in study center sites that are slightly off the beaten path so our students mingle and meet local students and those from other countries, rather than just other Americans.

Cultural Immersion

Live with a Japanese host family, which will help you improve your proficiency in Japanese, learn about Japanese culture and create a network of friends.

Hokusei Gakuen University

  • The University has worked with BCA since 1988 to provide the best cultural immersion experience for students interested in learning more about Japanese language and culture. 
  • Hokusei Gakuen University has a student enrollment of about 6,000 and offers courses in English literature, social work, information management, economics, and business.
  • Independent study options are encouraged and supported, and internships are available.
  • In addition to the courses offered by the university, BCA students are required to spend 12 credit hours per week in Japanese language instruction.

Excursions and Activities

  • Before the term starts, you will take a study tour throughout Japan as an introduction to Japanese culture and history. 
  • Encounter the old, traditional Japan of Kyoto and Nara and marvel at the rebuilt Japan in Hiroshima. 
  • BCA students have access to a wide variety of student clubs at the university.
