Pondicherry, India

Health & Safety

BCA is always concerned with the safety and well being of our students. We provide a detailed safety orientation upon arrival that covers important tips and instructions so you can stay safe. Our on-site resident directors are available whenever you are in need of medical attention and will ensure that you receive the required care during your time abroad.

Availability of care

Medical care in India is widely available.  It ranges from local country doctors to internationally known hospitals such as the Apollo Group.

Pondicherry/FERAL

There are several good hospitals in the area within 15 miles of campus. The nearest is JIPMER which is four miles away (http://www.jipmer.edu/).  East Coast Hospital is about 20 minutes away and Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences is about 30 minutes away. For any major work we would go to Apollo Hospitals: Chennai

Goa

Goa is fast becoming a location for medical tourism from Europe due to new hospital like the vintage http://www.vintage3.com/  and the GOA Medical College Hospital.    That said, Bangalore and Chennai have world-class hospitals that are a 45-minute flight away.

In the Andaman Islands

Havelock—where we primarily stay--has a rural health center with five nurses and two doctors.  Port Blair, which is a two-hour boat ride away, has the GB Pant hospital as well as several private hospitals.

Staying Safe

While you are abroad it’s important to follow the same common-sense safety precautions that you follow at home: never walk alone at night, keep doors locked, don’t allow strangers into your housing, and never leave bags or backpacks unattended.
