• The community of American students in Marburg is small, and students in Marburg are less likely to get lost in the shuffle.
• Live Like a King! Literally live in part of the former Duke of Marburg’s castle.  Up on the hill over-looking the medieval town, the Schloss offers many opportunities for cultural immersion

Expert Resident Director

Full-time, on-site Resident Director, Kristopher Riggs has directed the BCA program in Marburg since 2001. In addition to teaching the BCA translation course in the fall semester, Kris helps students negotiate the German university system, takes care of student admission and matriculation to the University of Marburg, makes arrangements for student housing, health insurance and pre-semester language course enrollment and assists students with obtaining a student residency permit for the Federal Republic of Germany. He also plans regularly scheduled social events, including the Thanksgiving, Christmas and Fourth of July celebrations. Kris has an M.A. in German and is certified as a German-to-English translator by the American Translators Association (ATA).

Philipps University

• One of Germany's oldest and most distinguished universities, Philipps University offers a wide range of academic disciplines
• Philipps University has hosted BCA participants since 1962, when 25 American students boarded a ship bound for Germany
• BCA students not only get top language instruction and experience, they can design an individual program of study 
• BCA students enroll directly in the university, taking courses taught by German professors
• Over its nearly 500-year history, the university has educated and employed a large number of distinguished scholars and thinkers, including 9 Nobel prize winners

BCA Orientation

• During orientation at BCA Marburg, all students participate in an intensive language course that is designed to meet the needs of all the students who may have different levels of language proficiency. Included in orientation is a five-day study tour.

Marburg is an excellent jumping-off place for exploring the rest of Germany and Europe. The city is located near the center of the country, midway between the Bavarian Alps and the North Sea coast. It lies on the main train line between Frankfurt and Kassel. More about BCA Germany's location.

Extra Educational Opportunities

• Attend BCA’s U.S.- European Student Conference on European - U.S. Relations (spring semester only)
• Additional German language and literature courses are available exclusively for BCA students.  BCA students can also take courses in peace and justice.
