University Information
Students studying in Dalian can choose to study at one of the two following host universities.
Dalian University of Foreign Languages (DUFL)
Dalian University of Foreign Languages (DUFL) has enjoyed an exchange relationship with BCA for more than 20 years. BCA was the first American study abroad provider to establish an exchange program in the vibrant northern city of Dalian, located on the Liaoning Peninsula. As the name of the university implies, the area of expertise at the university is the instruction of Chinese and other languages. For students seeking a complete immersion in the Chinese language and culture, there is no better place than Dalian.
DUFL was founded in 1964 and has eight schools and seven departments offering languages such as Russian, Japanese, Korean, French, German, English, and of course, Chinese. The university has more than 120 professors on its staff and an undergraduate student population over 5,000. DUFL is the largest center for the instruction of Chinese to foreigners in northeast China and it was one of the first National Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) centers in China. DUFL was also one of the first universities to offer a BA degree in Chinese to foreign students.
Dongbei University of Finance and Economics
Founded in 1952, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) is a multi-disciplinary university with strengths in economics, management, and law. The university has roughly 12,500 full-time students and 30 specialized programs and research institutions. The university currently offers 31 undergraduate degree programs, 54 master’s programs, and 34 doctoral programs. Among the programs offered at the university include: industrial economics, accounting, statistics, banking, public finance, quantitative economics, and business management. The university has a long-standing commitment to establishing international cooperative and exchange relationships with other universities. Currently, the university has cooperative relationships with 59 universities, including those from the USA, Japan, UK, Germany, and Australia. Dalian’s current mayor, Xia Deren, is a DUFE alumnus, former president of the university, and guest professor at DUFE.
Within DUFE’s administrative structure, the BCA program would work most closely with the university’s International Institute of Chinese Language and Culture (IICLC). The IICLC is DUFE’s designated administrative institution to recruit international students for both degree programs and non-degree programs. The Institute manages the teaching and administrative affairs of international students who are enrolled in undergraduate programs, graduate programs, long-term and short-term Chinese training programs. The Institute currently enrolls roughly 300 international students and offers a full range of Chinese language courses from beginning Chinese to Advanced Chinese. Advanced language students are also able to enroll in elective courses including Business Chinese and Reading Chinese Newspapers. The IICLC will provide all Chinese language instruction and make the appropriate arrangements for BCA students to take other courses in English at the School of International Business.
