BCA's Response to Violence in Mexico

Elizabethtown, PA. March 18, 2010--The U.S. media has increasingly been reporting on the violence occurring in Ciudad Juárez, across the border from El Paso, Texas, and other areas near the U.S. Mexican border. Unfortunately, narcotrafficking and turf wars, along with the Mexican government's attempts to control these groups, has created concern for safety near the border areas.

BCA's study center in Xalapa is located more than 500 miles from these areas of conflict, and we are carefully monitoring the situation. Our Resident Director in Xalapa is a warden of the U.S. Embassy in Mexico and frequently receives updates and advisories from the U.S. government.

Xalapa remains a safe and relatively quiet city well away from the border and the narcotrafficking routes. We have not seen any substantial change in Xalapa in regards to the safety and well-being of locals or foreigners, including U..S citizens. Likewise, Cuernavaca continues to be a common and safe destination for many foreign students.

Therefore, at this time, BCA is proceeding with our study abroad program in Mexico. BCA's first and foremost commitment is toward the health and safety of our students. If conditions change in Xalapa, we will take the appropriate action to protect the well-being of BCA students studying in Mexico.
