About BCA

BCA Plans for H1N1

Several health organizations have reported the likelihood of a resurgence of the H1N1 virus this fall when students return to school, both in the US and abroad.

While no one can predict the severity of a potential outbreak, please know that BCA will work to minimize its impact on our students. All of our resident directors are prepared to help students who need medical attention for any condition, including the flu. Medical facilities are available at all of our program sites. BCA provides International SOS travel assistance to all program participants so that they can get immediate health advice 24/7, even while traveling.

Should a flu outbreak at any of our host institutions be so severe as to result in a temporary closure, we will work with the students and host institutions to ensure that academic requirements are met. While we do not anticipate quarantines at any of our sites, if they occur our resident directors will work with host country authorities to ensure the health and safety of our students. BCA will provide regular updates via email if we believe that the flu or any other contagious illness will affect our students’ study abroad experiences in any way.

We strongly urge program participants and their families to visit both the CDC website (www.cdc.gov) and the International SOS website (www.internationalsos.com), where you will find a link to H1N1 information on the home page. It’s helpful to familiarize yourself with the travel health advice noted on these websites, as this advice includes precautionary measures one can take to prevent flu as well as what to do if one contracts the flu. It’s important for all students, especially those with medical conditions, to seek medical attention as soon as flu-like symptoms develop. When a vaccination becomes available, students can seek the advice of a health-care professional to determine if the vaccination is an option.

We welcome your questions and concerns regarding BCA’s health and crisis management policies and procedures. Please feel free to contact Elizabeth Huskin or BCA Central Office at 1-866-222-6188 for further information.
